Mariam Jaafar on Online Safety (Relief and Accountability) Bill
The Online Safety (Relief and Accountability) Bill does not just respond to online harm; it rebuilds trust in the digital public space, said MP Mariam Jaafar in parliament on Wednesday (Nov 5). She had several suggestions on how to go further. They include requiring online platforms to move from reactive to limited anticipatory protection and to enhance their algorithmic accountability, as well as strengthening rehabilitation by giving the Courts the discretion to combine compensation with digital literacy or restorative programmes, especially for younger offenders.
