Food-borne transmission was responsible for the majority of gastroenteritis outbreaks investigated by the Communicable Diseases Agency in 2024 and 2025. The agency handled about 110 outbreaks over the two years - with caterers, restaurants and central kitchens accounting for around two-thirds of food-related cases.
