Motion: Dennis Tan on reinforcing Singapore’s position as a global transport hub

Singapore has established itself as a maritime and aviation hub by capitalising on its geographical position and through continuous investment and development. However, the rules of global commerce are shifting, with competition and value moving away from purely physical throughput towards ownership of the software, data systems and digital platforms that orchestrate global movements. To reinforce its position as an indispensable hub for maritime logistics, Singapore must go from being an efficient technological adopter to an aggressive platform creator, shifting from operational excellence to global technological leadership. MP Dennis Tan made these points in parliament on Tuesday (Jul 7). He noted that the country “has never won by competing on physical size or sheer volume. We win by moving ahead of the curve.”
