Motion: Neo Kok Beng on reinforcing Singapore’s position as a global transport hub
It is very difficult to pilot or trial anything that is moving - such as drones - in Singapore in its drive towards a low-altitude economy due to space constraints. There should be fixed-sized control sites or sandboxes for research and development, along with regional sandboxes for craft that need longer distances and more complex operations. NMP Neo Kok Beng highlighted this challenge in parliament on Tuesday (Jul 7), as he urged the government to explore options for regional trial sites with neighbouring countries, like Malaysia and Indonesia. He also suggested that land, sea and air innovation plans be consolidated under an agency within the Ministry of Transport, with aggressive funding, piloting and collaboration to develop as a pillar of the economy.
