Motorists across Thailand rush to refuel amid fears of shortages from Middle East war
Motorists across Thailand are rushing to petrol stations amid fears of fuel shortages and rising prices. The panic has been sparked by two reasons. Firstly, a price cap on diesel is expiring on Monday. The subsidy limits the price to about US$0.90 per litre and has been costing the government reportedly US$32 million per day for the past two weeks. Secondly, more than half of Thailand’s fuel imports pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The Thai government had announced that it has about three months of fuel reserves left. Saksith Saiyasombut reports.Â
