Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim on speed-management devices for lorries used to ferry migrant workers
In March 2022, it was announced that lorries with a maximum laden weight of between 3,500kg and 12,000kg would have to be fitted with speed-management devices or speed limiters. Giving an update in Parliament on Thursday (Jul 6) in reply to an MP’s questions, Minister of State for Home Affairs Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim said the Traffic Police have been working with industry stakeholders to evaluate the different types of speed limiters and develop an implementation plan. He said stakeholders have given feedback that they need time for reconfiguration and safety testing, as well as to ramp up supply and ensure there are enough authorised agents to install the devices. Dr Faishal said his ministry aims to announce further details later this year.
