Murali Pillai on fires involving Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses
The fires involving the Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses this year were caused by failure of different parts. There is no indication of a common underlying cause. The Land Transport Authority had directed the public bus operators to carry out additional inspections of their Citaro buses and no abnormalities were found. It is working with them to enhance inspection for older buses and assess whether additional preventive measures can reduce fire risks. Senior Minister of State for Transport Murali Pillai said this in reply to an MP’s questions in parliament on Wednesday (Aug 5).
