NDR 2026: Singapore to ease dialect restrictions for pay television and movies
The Singapore government will ease restrictions for dialects in pay television and movies, including removing the limit on the number of screenings of dialect films, as long as a Mandarin-dubbed version is available, said Prime Minister Lawrence Wong during the National Day Rally speech on Sunday (Aug 23).
He added that he had watched the Teochew version of the film, Dear You. "Many see dialects as a cultural heritage worth preserving. I agree," he said.
