The MediShield Life Scheme (Amendment) Bill is especially relevant now with a growing ageing population and will align the MediShield Life scheme with evolving healthcare needs by enabling better oversight through approvals and conditions for medical institutions, said NMP Neil Parekh Nimil Rajnikant. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Nov 11), he said the Bill will also promote service quality and cost-effective healthcare delivery. He pointed out that the proposed changes, while introducing new compliance requirements, would benefit medical institutions with more streamlined approval processes and clearer service delivery standards, and would lead to improved patient care. During the transition, close coordination between insurers and health providers would be required to avoid disruption in claims processing, he said. He also sought clarifications on the Bill. These include the specific timelines for the approval or rejection of applications by medical institutions for treatment coverage under MediShield Life, coverage for those undergoing treatment during the transition period and ways of communicating the changes to the public.
