Nepal-Tibet disaster: Recent rescues renew hopes of finding more people alive

06:25 Min

Rescue teams in Nepal are pressing on with their search for survivors, despite difficult terrain and weather in areas hit by last month’s devastating floods. The discovery of a Chinese national from a hydropower tunnel on Sep 5 has given rescuers encouragement, but mud, sludge and debris continue to hamper operations at several damaged hydropower projects. A specialist team from Singapore is also on the ground to help in the search, as the recovery of the dead far outpaces efforts to identify them. Fewer than 100 of the bodies found have been identified and returned to their families. CNA Senior Correspondent Jack Board reports from Kathmandu.
