04:48 Min

Millions of people are marking the Hindu festival of Deepavali, or Diwali. It's seen as the most important festival of the year for Hindus, symbolising the victory of light over darkness. But celebrations in India's capital New Delhi have taken place beneath a thick layer of smog. Officials warned air quality might worsen, if residents continue to defy a ban on firecrackers. Some have said the ban is an insult to Hindu traditions, while others have called it a case of government overreach. In the past few days, New Delhi police have seized 19,000kg of firecrackers. Neha Poonia reports.
