New recovery ward at TTSH reduces average post-op stay from 6 to 4.5 days

02:44 Min

Tan Tock Seng Hospital's new recovery ward is helping major elective surgery patients reduce average hospital stays from six days to four-and-a-half days. Under the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) care method, patients are encouraged to resume daily routines shortly after surgery. This has helped ease the backlog of surgeries accumulated during the COVID-19 pandemic. TTSH has been adopting ERAS principles for better patient outcomes since 2016. The hospital is aiming to make this mode of care the standard for all its surgical wards. Rachel Teng reports.
