New hospitals in Singapore can now be built faster, better and cheaper, with a new national blueprint on the development of healthcare facilities. With the first national Healthcare Facility Design Standards (HFDS), the time taken to build a new general hospital could be slashed by a few years. This, as Singapore prepares for higher demand for hospital beds amid a rapidly ageing population. Tengah General and Community Hospital is the first in Singapore to fully adopt HFDS. Through the streamlined approach, it is said to be completed within the next seven years. Nadine Yeam reports.
