Ng Ling Ling on Cybersecurity (Amendment) Bill
In proposing to increase the cybersecurity responsibility and accountability of owners of Critical Information Infrastructure (CII), there are practical challenges that healthcare providers may face, said MP Ng Ling Ling in Parliament on Tuesday (May 7). For example, she asked if entities of different sizes - such as a restructured public hospital versus a small private GP clinic - will be subject to the same requirements. Ms Ng suggested that tiered requirements and sector-specific support may be appropriate. She also asked about plans to designate and regulate two new classes - Entities of Special Cybersecurity Interest and Foundational Digital Infrastructure. She called for clarity on what kind of entities could be designated and whether they will be given guidelines, because smaller entities such as non-profit organisations might not have the capabilities or resources required to bear the additional compliance burden.
