Ng Shi Xuan on Land Transport and Related Matters Bill
Reducing the speed limit for personal mobility aids (PMAs) is a welcome move, but consistent enforcement will be needed to truly change behaviour, said MP Ng Shi Xuan. He called for permanent cameras at high-risk areas, with roving enforcement elsewhere. He also suggested a co-funding model between town councils and the Land Transport Authority for estates that want to take part in enforcement. Mr Ng also proposed a structured reporting channel to mobilise “eyes on the ground” for early detection of unsafe devices. As for the fire risk to homes from compliant devices, he suggested looking into allowing these devices to be parked at HDB multi-storey car parks and building fire-resistant battery-charging infrastructure at those locations. He spoke in parliament on Tuesday (Feb 3).
