Sports participation improves our quality of life, even more so for persons with disabilities (PWDs), as engaging in sports can enhance mobility, foster independence and build resilience, said NMP Ong Hua Han. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Oct 16), he stressed the need for inclusive sports participation to ensure that PWDs can reap the benefits of sports. He urged the Government to keep inclusive programming at the heart of public policymaking. Singaporeans must make an effort to foster inclusive and accepting environments so that more PWDs will feel comfortable to show up, participate and thrive in their shared spaces, he said. Mr Ong urged PWDs and their caregivers to “take the first step” to participate, saying it is his dream that one day, “every sports facility will be bustling with activity, where everyone of every ability is included”.
