Palestinian statehood, Gaza war to top agenda at UN General Assembly in New York
More than 140 world leaders will be in New York this week for the 80th United Nations General Assembly. The issue of Palestinian statehood and the nearly two-year-long war between Israel and Hamas are likely to dominate discussions. France and Saudi Arabia will convene dozens of leaders to rally support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The UK, Canada, Australia and Portugal have formally recognised a Palestinian state, as Israel's intensified military operations in Gaza have worsened the enclave's humanitarian crisis. Toni Waterman reports from New York and Blake Sifton reports from Tel Aviv.
