Poh Li San on Hijacking of Aircraft and Protection of Aircraft and International Airports (Amendment) Bill
Tactics used by terrorists have become more sophisticated and Singapore must ensure its security measures keep pace, while working closely with other nations to combat this cross-border threat, said MP Poh Li San in Parliament on Monday (Feb 14). With that in mind, she asked why it has taken more than a decade for Singapore to accede to two aviation security treaties which were concluded in 2010, given that doing so would not have had an “onerous impact” on its existing procedures. She also wanted to know what the legal liability would be for security forces causing unintended injuries or deaths in a plane hijacking hostage situation.
