Rahayu Mahzam on age assurance requirements for social media services
Singapore youths are “very open” to having social media safeguards in place. They are supportive of the government’s tiered approach, but want it to be “calibrated”. Minister of State for Digital Development and Information Rahayu Mahzam said this in parliament on Thursday (Sep 10) in reply to an MP’s questions. She said in conversations on the matter, the authorities have found youths to be “very sensible” and “more mature than we think”, expressing worries for their younger siblings and friends. Singapore is also working on its approach based on information from expert panels and by studying what is happening overseas, added Ms Rahayu.
