Rahayu Mahzam on Meta’s move to drop fact-checking and reduce content moderation
The Government is monitoring developments arising from Meta’s announcement to replace third-party fact-checking with crowd-sourced fact-checking and revise its hate speech policies across its platforms. Based on publicly available reports, these changes will be limited to within the US, at least in the near term. The Government will assess their impact on Singapore, especially if the changes are implemented here. In the meantime, it will continue its existing approach to addressing misinformation. Minister of State for Digital Development and Information Rahayu Mahzam said this in reply to an MP’s questions in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 5). She added that the Government will continue to review its range of online safety efforts to ensure that Singaporeans can continue to access safe and trusted online spaces.
