S Iswaran on commercial use of electric vehicles
The adoption of electric light goods vehicles (e-LGVs) in Singapore has grown significantly, from 0.4 per cent of new LGV registrations in 2020 to around 28 per cent this year - the highest among all vehicle categories. Revealing this in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 30), Transport Minister S Iswaran said the Government has implemented incentives such as the Commercial Vehicle Emissions Scheme and Early Turnover Scheme to encourage e-LGV purchases, including by vehicle rental companies. It will continue to review the need for further incentives. He was responding to an MP’s question on incentivising SMEs to pivot to renting electric vehicles for commercial use, in view of Singapore’s climate ambitions.
