Saudi Arabia says it downed Houthi drone headed for Mecca

04:14 Min

A Saudi-led coalition has warned of "necessary" and "deterrent" measures against the Houthis, after intercepting what it says was a drone heading towards Mecca. The Houthi rebels have called the allegations a "set-up for propaganda purposes". However, they have also claimed to have shot down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet over Yemen's Marib province. The Houthis say Saudi forces have carried out more than 450 air strikes across Yemen in the past week. Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is holding talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing. China is urging Washington and Tehran to return to negotiations and exercise restraint. James Gooderson reports from Washington DC.
