Shanmugam urges opposition parties to reject foreign interference, identity politics
An alarm raised against identity politics in Singapore and a call for all political parties to decisively reject such practices based on race or religion. Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam delivered an hour-long speech in Parliament, referencing incidents during the General Election earlier this year. He described the dangers of mixing race and religion with politics as a "one-way street to ruin". Pointing to rising divisions abroad, Mr Shanmugam said Singapore must never go down that path, calling for its founding principles of meritocracy and multiracialism to be protected at all costs. Sherlyn Seah reports.
