Shawn Huang on upfront costs of hiring migrant domestic workers

The median upfront recruitment outlay to hire new migrant domestic workers (MDWs) is around S$4,700 - half of it consists of loan to the MDWs that employers subsequently recover. This upfront cost has remained largely stable since 2022, after accounting for inflation. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Manpower Shawn Huang said this in reply to an MP’s question in parliament on Wednesday (Jan 14).
