Shawn Loh on Digital Infrastructure Bill
Digital infrastructure may be a new utility, but the task ahead for Singapore is to move up the value chain, said MP Shawn Loh. This means capturing more value from the infrastructure it hosts, continually renewing the capacity it has and developing solutions to help the region grow together, he said. He stressed the need to look for value over volume capability by using data centres to train Singaporeans in new frontier capabilities, developing solutions that Singapore can export and redeveloping existing capacity. Speaking in parliament on Tuesday (Oct 6), he also hopes the government can clarify whether growing demand from data centres has affected electricity prices for retail consumers or the stability of Singapore’s power grid.
