The Government is looking into whether there is a need to establish a residential noise threshold and expects to be able to conclude the review before the end of 2024. Senior Minister of State for National Development Sim Ann, who gave this update in reply to an MP’s question in Parliament on Tuesday (May 9), said it plans to work with academia on a technical study and draw on references from threshold practices in other jurisdictions before starting wider consultations with relevant agencies and experts. She said the Government is also working to strengthen the inter-agency Community Dispute Management Framework. This includes preparing for the pilot unit of dedicated personnel to address serious cases of noise disputes involving neighbours.
