Singapore launches photonics committee, engages overseas semiconductor firms

Singapore is engaging semiconductor companies in markets such as Taiwan and the Netherlands to explore a technology that supports fast data transmission and advanced medical tools. A new committee will focus on the emerging area of photonics to help Singapore strengthen supply-chain partnerships and maintain its position as a global semiconductor hub. The semiconductor industry makes up about 6% of Singapore's GDP. Semiconductors have been identified as Singapore's first Research, Innovation and Enterprise flagship, with S$800 million in funding dedicated to research. Germaine Wong reports.
