Singapore orders Meta to curb impersonation scams or face fines of up to S$1 million

In Singapore, tech giant Meta will be required to put measures on Facebook to address government official impersonation scams. Failure to comply could mean fines of up to S$1 million. This will be the first such directive under the Online Criminal Harms Act. Facebook is the top platform used by scammers for impersonation scams in Singapore. The overall number of such scams almost tripled to 1,762 in the first half of this year, compared to 589 in the same period in 2024. The amount lost was about S$126.5 million, an increase of about 90% from last year. Aslam Shah reports.
