Singapore proposes law to ban deepfakes during elections
Singapore is proposing a law to ban digitally manipulated content -- such as deepfakes -- during elections. If passed, candidates will be able to ask the returning officer to review content that misrepresents them. If the content is indeed found to have been manipulated, the Infocomm Media Development Authority will take further action. The proposed new laws would only apply during elections -- from the day that the Writ of Election is issued to Polling Day. Experts have described the move as a positive step. Nicolas Ng reports.Â
