Singapore will reconsider position on Palestine if situation deteriorates: Vivian Balakrishnan
Singapore will recognise the State of Palestine when it has an effective government that renounces terrorism and accepts Israel's right to exist. Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said this during a ministerial statement in Parliament on the Gaza conflict. However, Singapore will reconsider its position if the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate. Targeted sanctions for groups responsible for violence against Palestinians in the West Bank are also on the cards. Meanwhile, Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Faishal Ibrahim asked Singaporeans to continue rallying to help the Palestinians. He also assured that Singapore will not be silent onlookers in the Gaza situation. Claudia Lim reports.
