New pilot allows approved fosterers to keep up to 6 cats in HDB flats, 10 in private homes

Approved cat fosterers will soon be allowed to keep up to six cats in some types of public flats — more than the usual limit of two for cat owners. Fosterers staying in private property can care for up to 10 cats. A new two-year pilot scheme by the Animal and Veterinary Service recognises the role fosterers play in safeguarding animal health and encouraging rehoming. According to a recent survey, more than eight in 10 fosterers care for up to six cats at any one time, and some seven in 10 fosterers live in public housing. Chloe Teo reports.
