Bone marrow transplants: Donor registry to fully subsidise procurement of stem cells from January

03:42 Min

Eligible patients will have up to 30 per cent of bone marrow transplant costs subsidised from January. This includes full subsidy of the cost of procuring stem cells from a Singaporean or Permanent Resident, which the Bone Marrow Donor Programme will pay for. Singapore will become the first country to do so. However, the donor registry says finding a local donor remains difficult. Only 2.5 per cent of Singapore's entire population is on the registry. Natalie Ong reports.
