Prisons, partners adapt as inmate population ages; 1 in 6 aged 60 or older

The Singapore Prison Service is transforming its cells and boosting community partnerships to better support a growing elderly inmate population. More are requiring specialised cells and support as those aged 65 and above have more than doubled since 2019 - from four per cent to nine per cent. Currently, one in 6 inmates is 60 or older, up from one in 10 in 2019. CNA's senior reporter Aslam Shah explains how the Singapore Prison Service is working to meet new demands as more inmates grow old, and what help is available to support reintegration after their release.
