Sun Xueling on cases of assault involving migrant workers at dormitories
About 990 cases of assault involving migrant workers at dormitories were reported to the police from 2020 to 2022. They included cases of affray and rioting. A minority of cases involved people of different races but none were reported to be racially motivated. This was revealed by Minister of State for Home Affairs Sun Xueling in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 7). Responding to an MP’s questions, she said the police work with dormitory operators on safety and security. Operators are required as part of their licensing conditions to have security arrangements such as installing closed-circuit TV systems and deploying security officers. Dormitory residents are also made aware of safety and crime prevention issues.
