Sun Xueling on fee caps to ensure affordable preschool education
The government will further reduce the fee caps for Anchor Operator and Partner Operator preschools next year. As a result of the fee caps, the industry median childcare fee before GST has come down from S$800 in 2018 to S$720 in 2023. With the cap reductions and subsidy enhancements, a median-income household with a child in full-day childcare in an Anchor Operator centre spent 3.1 per cent of its household income on preschool in 2023, compared with 4.9 per cent in 2018. Minister of State for Social and Family Development Sun Xueling gave this update in reply to an MP’s questions in parliament on Tuesday (Feb 18).
