Tan Kiat How on ban of electric collars for animal training
Senior Minister of State for National Development Tan Kiat How said NParks is currently developing guidelines to highlight the risks of using aversive animal training devices such as electric collars. More details will be shared when ready. Mr Tan said he himself tried on some electric collars and experienced the pain and shock. On animal cruelty, Mr Tan said from 2019 to 2023, his ministry received about 1,250 alleged cases each year. Between 2019 and 2022, an average of about 60 cases per year were found to be related to animal cruelty. He said enforcement actions were taken against offenders. These ranged from warnings to prosecution, depending on the severity of the case. Mr Tan was replying to an MP’s questions in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 7).
