The risk of cross-border transmission of Ebola to Singapore is assessed to be low. Travel volume is low as there are no direct flights between both countries. Ebola is primarily spread through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected persons and does not spread easily in settings with strong public healthcare practices and infrastructure, like in Singapore. Senior Minister of State for Health Tan Kiat How, who gave this assurance in reply to an MP’s question in parliament on Wednesday (Sep 9), said the government will continue to monitor the outbreak and spread of deadly pathogens around the world and be ready to respond.
