Tan See Leng on Temporary Electricity Contracting Support Scheme

09:28 Min

The Government is monitoring the energy situation carefully and is prepared to put in place further support measures. This includes extending the Temporary Electricity Contracting Support Scheme (TRECS) if there is a need to. Second Minister for Trade and Industry Tan See Leng gave this assurance in reply to an MP’s questions in Parliament on Friday (Mar 11). He said the Energy Market Authority (EMA), which extended TRECS until May, has been working to ensure that electricity retailers do not impose unfair contractual terms on consumers. Participating generation companies and retailers have been providing sufficient TRECS and retail contracts with significant fixed price components to meet demand, on a voluntary basis. EMA will not hesitate to investigate and take action against errant retailers, he said.
