Tokyo aims to usher new golden age of Japan-US alliance as Trump visits the country

US and Japan are looking to strengthen economic and security cooperation ties during US President Donald Trump’s trip to Tokyo, as part of his Asian tour. Although the visit has been clouded by uncertainty following Trump’s tariff blitz earlier this year, he and Japan's newly appointed Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi unveiled twin agreements at a signing ceremony at the Akasaka Palace. Mr Trump also welcomed the Japanese leader's pledge to accelerate a military buildup.
