'Traffic light' system on trial at community space in Clementi to monitor noise levels
Residents living around a community space in Clementi Avenue 4 said noise levels have fallen, after an outdoor noise monitoring system was installed under a pilot programme. The "traffic light" system aims to keep noise levels from events within an acceptable range to help maintain peace and quiet in the neighbourhood. When sound levels exceed 83 decibels — about as loud as a vacuum cleaner — a red light is triggered. The incident is then recorded and monitored by the Holland-Bukit Panjang Town Council. Organisers who repeatedly trigger the alert could be suspended from booking the event space. Claudia Lim reports.
