US prosecutors said they have reached a plea deal with three of five men accused of plotting the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York City. The trial of the five conspirators had been stuck in legal delays for years, but can now move towards a resolution. The accused mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and two of his accomplices are all held at the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the deals almost certainly involved guilty pleas in exchange for taking the death penalty off the table.
