Vietnam appoints army general Luong Cuong as president after months of turmoil

Vietnam has appointed a new president. Military general Luong Cuong, 67, is the fourth president in just the last three years, following an unprecedented period of political turmoil. Observers expect his appointment to herald in a new period before the governing Communist Party's all-important congress in 2026. Before Mr Cuong, party chief To Lam was the country's president, taking on a dual role for five months. Tung Ngo reports.
