Vivian Balakrishnan on Singapore’s support for humanitarian aid to Gaza
Since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict in October 2023, Singapore and Singaporeans have contributed significantly and sent six tranches of humanitarian assistance to Gaza totalling more than S$19 million. Singapore is making plans for a seventh tranche of humanitarian aid comprising food, medical supplies and essential supplies. Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, who gave this update in reply to MPs’ questions in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 4), hopes that all Singaporeans will continue to contribute to the fundraising efforts for Gaza. He also stressed the need for all parties to reach an agreement for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and to pursue a longer-term solution. He added that the only viable path for achieving a comprehensive, just and durable solution is a negotiated two-state solution.
