Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 6: Kuah Boon Theng on supporting families with special needs

05:06 Min

The government must better support families with special needs in three major areas, said NMP Kuah Boon Theng in parliament on Thursday (Mar 5). First - it should aggressively expand Day Activity Centres (DACs) and commit to eliminating waiting times. Second - review the high cost of DAC fees which, even with means-tested subsidies, is still unaffordable to many in the sandwiched class. Third - give parents peace of mind that their special needs adult children will be cared for after they are gone. This means supporting the entire family unit so that they feel ready to shoulder the responsibility.
