Cassandra Lee on Coastal Protection and Other Amendments Bill
Singapore is a land-scarce island-nation and the impact of rising sea levels from climate change is significant. MP Cassandra Lee made these remarks in support of the Coastal Protection and Other Amendments Bill, noting that it recognises the longer-term challenge that Singapore faces. Speaking in parliament on Friday (Mar 6), she gave suggestions on four areas, including implications on businesses and their opportunity costs. She noted that while the government wants to protect Singapore’s coastlines, it is equally important that it continues to sustain the commercial viability of coastal properties for businesses. She also wanted to know if the government will require affected landowners and lessees to undertake an environmental impact assessment.
