Janil Puthucheary on use of ketamine to treat severe depression
The use of ketamine to treat severe depression was approved in Singapore in October 2020, to be administered as a nasal spray together with oral anti-depressant therapy. Clinical trials have shown that this improved the symptoms, with mild side effects and minimal addictive potential. Overall, the benefits outweigh the risks, Senior Minister of State for Health Janil Puthucheary said in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 5). He also outlined a range of measures in place to ensure the safe use of the drug. He was replying to MPs’ questions.
