19:34 Min

Singapore intends to improve safety on public buses, even as it starts from “a position of strength” with the number of serious accidents involving buses staying stable in the past few years. Bus routes will be capped at two hours long to prevent driver fatigue. The government is looking at getting more safety technologies installed in buses. A new points system will be implemented to ensure drivers keep up with the necessary skills training. Minister of State for Transport Murali Pillai gave these details in parliament on Wednesday (Mar 5). He also spoke about steps to sharpen Singapore’s competitive edge as a global maritime hub. The country plans to tap technology, grow its talent and position itself as a bunkering hub for alternative fuels.
