Valerie Lee on Online Safety (Relief and Accountability) Bill
In parliament on Wednesday (Nov 5), MP Valerie Lee sought details on the structure, staffing and expertise of Singapore’s new Online Safety Commission, to be set up by next year. She said that given its wide-ranging powers over privacy, speech and accountability, public confidence in its competence and neutrality is essential. She also noted that amid global efforts to make digital spaces safer, Singapore goes further by recognising new civil wrongs such as online impersonation and inauthentic material abuse.
