Gan Siow Huang on Regulation of Imports and Exports (Amendment) Bill
Singapore is working to strengthen its status as a trusted and reliable global trade hub, as well as a responsible trade partner on the global stage on two fronts. Firstly, it is giving more teeth to the legal and regulatory framework for the issuance of trade information certificates (TICs). Other eligible entities will be authorised as alternative issuers, and it will be an offence to make a false declaration or provide false information when applying for TICs. Secondly, the government is seeking to enhance Singapore Customs’ operational effectiveness in the investigation of offences and expanding the scope of situations for granting a search warrant. Minister of State for Trade and Industry Gan Siow Huang outlined these two key proposals in parliament on Thursday (Nov 6).
