The government should be clear about affordable and accessible animal care and seriously examine the broader costs of caring for pets, he said. It should also track broad trends in the cost of pet care and provide a sense of how costs are driven by inflation, manpower, advanced treatment and regulatory and professional requirements. There should be a stronger voice for animal welfare and pet owners’ interests, he added.
